OPEN HOUSES & TRYOUT PROCESS

GENERAL INFORMATION

Avalanche VBC: Our club's competitive programming stands in stark contrast to our developmental leagues, clinics, and summer camps. Although our mission remains consistent, the intensity and commitment required for training and competition are significantly heightened. We are a competitive club offering three tiers of competition within the Arizona Region:

  • Championship Teams
  • Club Teams
  • AAU Teams

Athletes entering our club are expected to possess a solid foundational skill set. Our program caters to players who have advanced beyond developmental or recreational programs and are eager to enhance their skills and grow as volleyball players. This is for those who aspire to compete at a higher and more competitive level.

Important Points:

  • All athletes must tryout for club teams each November.
  • Age eligibility is determined by USAV based on player's age as of July 1, 2025. Click HERE for verification.
  • Club seasons run from early November to June 30.
  • Club fees do not guarantee equal playing time.
  • Financial and time commitments represent an investment in an athlete's volleyball career.

What are open houses EVALUATIONS?

Open Houses provides players with an opportunity to explore different clubs and find the one that best fits their needs and goals. Clubs can evaluate players' skills and discuss their potential for joining, but players should not feel pressured into making any commitments. No fees or team commitments should be required before formal tryouts.

Each athlete must bring a copy of their USAV membership in order to participate. Athlete's will fill out a player profile form that will be provided at Open House Evaluations.

Additional Team information regarding practice, tournament schedule, and cost will be displayed at Open House Evaluations.

Should we attend all 3 sessions?

Yes, we highly recommend attending all three sessions. This ensures that players get the fullest experience, gain visibility, and make the most informed decision regarding their future club.

TRYOUT CHECKLIST

STEP 1: Determine your daughter's age eligibility set by USAV.

STEP 2: Register your daughter for tryouts at Avalanche VBC.

Step 3: If you are new to club, create a FREE Sports Engine household account in the PARENT’S NAME. Step Four will allow you to create your daughter's membership linked to Avalanche.

STEP 4: Purchase an Arizona Region Membership for your daughter. This is required to participate in Open House Evaluations and Tryouts.

STEP 5: Bring 1 copy of the following to tryouts: signed USAV SafeSport form, signed Concussion form, and signed Medical Release form. If this is your first time in Club, then you’ll need to bring a COPY of your Birth Certificate.

STEP 6: Arrive 30 minutes early from tryout start time to check-in. We encourage parents to handle the check-in process while athletes head to the gym to warm up.

STEP 7: During tryouts, coaches will guide athletes through drills and gameplay to make final roster decisions for all teams. Parents are not permitted in the gym during tryouts—feel free to grab a coffee, but stay close by

STEP 8: Upon team finalization, we will gather the players to announce teams. Once called, players will meet their coaches and team.

STEP 9: Parent(s) will meet with their daughter to sign the financial agreement. Once signed and deposit is submitted, the player will be finalized on the team's roster.

STEP 10: Purchase the Annual $25 Boys & Girls Club Membership. Per Avalanche's Facility Agreement with BGCS, a membership is required to participate.

Tryout DAY

Our tryouts will follow a similar format to our open houses. Upon arrival, parents will check in players, ensuring all required memberships and paperwork are completed. Coaches will guide players through a series of drills and gameplay, evaluating skills, teamwork, and overall athletic potential.

At the end of the tryouts, team rosters will be finalized and announced. Once selections are made, players will meet with their new teams, and coaches will provide a welcome letter containing the practice schedule, tournament dates, and any remaining paperwork needed to secure your daughter's spot.

Parents and players will then sign the Avalanche agreement, while parents will also sign a financial agreement. Be prepared to either submit the deposit or pay in full at this time to finalize your commitment. Deposit must be payable in cash or check only. Deposit amounts will be announced at Open House Evaluations.
